Students in this ensemble will learn various traditional Chinese instruments, including the Hulusi, a free reed wind instrument made up of bamboo pipes and a wide gourd wind chest, the Dizi, a transverse flute, made up of various types of bamboo and/or wood and jade, and the Erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument, alternatively referred to as a spike fiddle.
Members of the Chinese ensemble will learn and perform Kunqu music, a form of ancient Chinese opera/poetry/drama.
